After being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in March, famed “Jeopardy!” game show host, Alex Trebek, shares details of his battle with cancer on Wednesday, with GMA host and cancer survivor herself, Robin Roberts.
In his very first interview since his diagnosis, the 78 year old Canadian revealed how much he has been struggling with sadness after being told he was suffering from stage 4 pancreatic cancer. He told Robin,
“My oncologist tells me I’m doing well, even though I don’t always feel it. I’ve had kidney stones, I’ve had ruptured disks, so I’m used to dealing with pain, But what I’m not used to dealing with is the surges that come on suddenly of deep, deep sadness, and it brings
tears to my eyes.”
He admitted that,
“I’ve discovered in this whole episode, ladies and gentleman, that I’m a bit of a wuss, but I’m fighting through it.”
The fan favorite host got extremely candid in the interview, discussing how his blood count is stable, his cancer indicators are low and that he will be doing a chemotherapy session next week to see his progress.
As you may all know Trebek has been hosting, “Jeopardy!” since 1984 as well as several other game shows throughout his career. He holds the Guinness world record for game show hosting. During the interview he even joked about wishing he got this diagnosis closer to the end of the season so he could use this summer to recuperate.
One thing that really moved the audience was him revealing that he has gotten inspiration from survivors saying,
“People all over America have been sharing their good thoughts, their advice, their prayers, and I feel it is making a difference in my well-being. I’ve had so many contacts from people who have survived cancer for 10 years, 12 years, 14 years. I am now a 30-day cancer survivor, I’m going to catch up to those people! But they have
been an inspiration for me.”
Images were later posted on Instagram of Robin hugging Trebek with the caption,
“I’ve been patiently waiting to give Jeopardy host #alextrebek a big hug.” She ended saying, “I’m in awe of his grace and thankful that he’s feeling all the love from so many around the world…💜”
Get Well Soon Alex Trebek! Our prayers are with you. 🙏
