After failing three times to persuade the members of Parliament to back the Brexit deal, British Prime Minister, Theresa May has announced her resignation.

The 62 year-old representative of the Conservative Party gave a very emotional resignation speech. She told the media,

I believe it was right to persevere even when the odds against success seemed high. But it is now clear to me that it is in the best interests of the country for a new prime minister to lead that effort.”“It is, and will always remain, a matter of deep regret to me that I have not been able to deliver Brexit.”

She ended the speech by saying,

“I will shortly leave the job that has been the honour of my life to hold. The second female prime minister, but certainly not the last. I do so with no ill will, but with enormous and enduring gratitude to have had the opportunity to serve the country I love.”

According to several sources the reason behind her decision was simple. May carried out the Brexit negotiations with the European Union, which resulted in a draft agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union. This agreement was then refused by parliament earlier this year and twice again after two revised plans.

Once the third was rejected, Theresa May followed through on her commitment in March to resign as the British Prime Minister.

And so said, so done. British Prime Minister Theresa May is to leave her position on June 7, 2019.
