I am not sure if President Trump is trying to distract us from his impeachment inquiry, or he is punishing us, but politicians on both sides of the aisle are nervous today, after the President threatened Turkey and promised to bring down their economy.
This after US orders that troops be withdrawn from northern Syria and Turkey will be responsible for capturing Islamic State group fighters in the area.
Many foreign experts are saying that this is deeply damaging. Foreign policy experts and Republican allies alike, are having a hard time aligning themselves with POTUS on this one, as they believe that this will result in a blood bath. The President responded by saying,
Even the President’s main Republican ally Lindsey Graham had this to say,
“No matter what President Trump is saying about his decision, it is EXACTLY what President Obama did in Iraq with even more disastrous consequences for our national security.
Unlike President Obama, I hope President Trump will reassess and take sound military advice.”
Graham however, while he disagreed with Trump on the President’s decision to remove the troops in Syria, he tried to pin the decision on President Obama. Not sure if this was the Senator’s reverse psychology strategy to get the president to do what he wants him to do, by likening his decision to that of President Obama’s, but let’s just say he started trending on Twitter shortly thereafter statement, in a not so good way.
Many foreign affairs experts are concerned that the President appears to be persistent with his foreign affairs strategy, that threatens to further alienate America from its allies.
However, despite the public military advice from very senior aides and his best buddies like Lindsey Graham and others the President of the United States remains resolute in his decision to remove US Troops in Northern Syria.
In the meantime, House Democrats have issued new Subpoenas to the Pentagon ,OMB for Ukraine Documents. So I guess that not even bad military decisions abroad can distract the House Democrats.
