The Basia Show

The Basia Show

The Basia Show first aired in April 2009. It took the Caribbean by storm. Basia’s CEO, Basia Alicia Powell after seeing a performance by Soca Queens, Alison Hinds, Destra and Denise Belfon, on Carnival Friday night in Trinidad. In less than a month Basia and her husband, former West Indies cricketer, Ricardo Powell produced a legendary platform to interview the leading Caribbean celebrities. They would come to be known as her “A-listers” , and she interviewed them “Basiastyle”. They would later take the production to Miami to include Latin celebrities.

Basia Powell had a vision to create a celebrity interview platform where she could feature interviews that were different from what was seen on Caribbean television at that time, and it worked. Celebrities trusted her as she had established an outstanding reputation for celebrity magazine interviews with many of them. She felt that it was important to take these interviews to television, so the world could witness the magic that took place during her interviews.

After the first episode was released, The Basia Show was an immediate success and the show started to air in other Caribbean territories like Barbados, Jamaica, St Lucia, Cayman Islands, St Kitts, Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, as well as many other islands. The Basia Show producers would fly celebrities from abroad to their home studio in Port-Of-Spain, Trinidad to be interviewed by “Miss Basia” as she was affectionately called. Every celebrity who was “somebody” in the Caribbean region appeared on The Basia Show or was featured in Basiamagazine.

After producing and airing over 100 episodes, The Basia Show went on a much needed hiatus. The Executive Producers went on to focus on producing their culinary TV series called Basiastylecooking and Basia Powell went on to produce and launch her successful digital Tv series in Atlanta Georgia, called, BasiaWomenWhoSlay. At the start of 2018, the producers of Basia TV decided to resume production of TheBasiaShow for their digital TV platform.
