Let me be the first to admit that short hairstyles are not for every woman. Similarly, long hairstyles are not for every woman. However, there are many women who are hiding their natural beauty behind the idea that their hair is their beauty. Many cultures have brainwashed women into thinking that the longer their hair, the more beautiful they are. That is not true in all cases.
The hair industry is a billion dollar industry due to the fact that a woman’s hairstyle is the core of her self-image. Women will spend thousands of dollars on the perfect wig, hair extensions, and products to grow their hair and keep their “edges laid.””
For many years, I wore hair extensions in between my short haircuts. Deep down inside, I knew that the short hairstyles were for me. I believed with all my heart that my short hairstyles were my best look, but in my teenage years, the girls with the ‘long hair” got the attention of the guys, so I conformed. I would later learn that a pretty face was not enough to rock a short hair style, in particular a baldhead style. That requires loads of confidence. At age 21, I shaved my hair off after a bad perm, just before I migrated to Jamaica, and the rest is history. Let’s just say, Jamaica is where this “Stella got her grove back!”
In my 20s I learned that short haircuts are all about style. I feel like wearing your hair in a ponytail everyday is a sign that you want to cut your hair, but you are afraid. Short hair is a statement all on its own and can range from anywhere between a baldhead natural hairstyle, a textured short haircut, to a shoulder length bob. The key is finding the right short hairstyle to suit your facial features and the shape of your face.
If you are contemplating the short look, here are some of the benefits of a short hairdo:
• It gives you a very modern and stylish/chic look. In other words, the right short hairstyle is edgy.
• It is suitable for all hair types.
• It is easy to manage, as it can be a quick wash and go style. Saves time for the woman on the go.
• A shorter hairstyle can save you a lot of money in products and visits to the salon.
• Short hairstyles can also be very versatile and fun. You can rock various versions of your short style and different colors.
