I am a dreamer! However, I am a results oriented dreamer. My next move is always based on my current results. If I invest time or money in a property, person or project and it does not deliver my desired results or returns, I will not repeat my mistake. As the saying goes, “Only a fool does the same thing repeatedly and expects different results.”

It is important to live your best life. However, it is more important to write and edit your own script. Many people live day to day without a plan for their lives. Planning and discipline are the keys to success. At a very tender age I realize pretty quickly that I would either have to be the architect of my life or the victim. I chose to be the architect. An architect has the ultimate say in what the end result of the building would look like. He or she get to create a design that blends in with the rest of the community or stands out. The design must also take into consideration the type of foundation needed for the structure to be lasting. Although the architect cannot actually build the house, the builder, masons, structural engineers, electricians, plumbers and others, must follow the design of the architect. The building cannot get started without the plan designed by the architect.

It is the same with our lives. If we have no plan, we are open to the design of others. Nothing happens by chance. I agree that a bit of luck is necessary in some cases. However, I choose to believe that what many call luck is actually divine favor. If many of us were to pause and think about the hopes and dreams we had for our lives 20 years ago, we may recognize that we are living the life we once hoped for. In cases where you had no clear dream or plan, have a look at the design you created 20 years prior in your mind. While our plans may not have been on blue print. they were in our thoughts. What type of life were you hoping and dreaming of? Was it a house, a luxury car, a life partner or a career? Whatever it was, did you dream big enough and did you achieve those goals?
It is very important to dream big. Your results will always match your dreams and your thoughts. You cannot have a delivery without conception. Conception will only occur in fertile soil. The soil of positivity is key before you can give birth to your dreams. Expect the outcome you desire. Many times people do not achieve the life they want because they did not dream big enough for it. Many times we get caught up in the struggle when the struggle is an indication that we are moving up. We will never ever achieve our big dreams without a struggle. So what do we do when we are in the middle of the struggle? Pray and smile. A person who is not going anywhere in their life will not feel pressure or discomfort. He or she feels the comfort that comes with the lack of growth.

I understand that everyone cannot be an architect, but you can be a great builder, mason, plumber and the list goes on. Whatever your role, it still requires you to follow the plan to achieve the desired results. Many of us want to achieve our dreams, however, we do not want the challenges that are associated with dream building.
The following are some tips for designing your dream life:
- Dream Big.
- Pray without ceasing.
- Expect Challenges.
- Celebrate every milestone.
- Live in gratitude. Someone else would die to have your life.
- Keep your pity parties short.
- Pretend that you are already there. As they say, “practice makes improvement.”
- Successful people have more fans than friends. Do not expect everyone to like you, or to be happy for you. (They will eventually tell everyone they know you, when you make it.)
- Seek out the people who are already living the life you desire. Choose your mentors carefully. A doctor cannot give you advice on being a lawyer. Taking advice from the wrong people can really change the trajectory of your life.
