Hola Barcelona 🇪🇸

Our time spent in Barcelona was amazing. There are a lot of exciting things to do in Barcelona as it is a big city. We stayed in the heart of downtown Barcelona, minutes away from the Gothic quarter, or Barri GĂłthic, near the waterfront.

The first item on the agenda was to taste the famous paella in Spain. We literally dined in the center of the city, where they are allowed to place tables and chairs outside of their respective restaurants on a street called La Rambla. La Rambla is the most famous street in downtown Barcelona, and it goes all the way to the waterfront. It is lined with restaurants and stores. The area is always buzzing, day and night. The paella there is the best in all of Barcelona, as it is also served with lobster.(I say this because we tried paella at other restaurants, but it was not as tasty.) If you are visiting Barcelona soon and you are looking for a good paella, the restaurant experience along La Rambla street is your best choice.

Apart from the exquisite cuisine and their cava wine, of course, the site seeing was amazing. We visited the Casa Bastlló. This building in downtown Barcelona was designed by late architect Antoni Gaudí. The tour is done via audio devices, which guide you as you move from to room. It is a pretty cool experience, and the building itself is an interesting masterpiece.  My opinion is that the property is more like a piece of art.

We then moved on to my favorite spot, the Segrada Familia. This Spanish Basilica is my personal favorite in the city.  Though unfinished, it exudes charm, tradition, and architectural opulence. This architectural style is in a league by itself.  Though it is a Basilica, it bears the resemblance of a castle that fits right into a Disney theme park.

Of course, we could not visit Barcelona and not go sailing in the Mediterranean Sea.  So we chartered a catamaran and went sailing with some friends after brunch. It was a perfect way to end our trip to Barcelona.

Overall, I will give Barcelona 8.5 stars for experiences and cuisine. (A word of caution ⚠️ Be extra careful when choosing hotels in the Gothic quarter. The septic system in that area can be challenging.) However,  there are many good choices downtown.
