Stop Volunteering for Roles God Never Assigned You

Hey Friends ❤️

Here is your Daily Power Note From Basia.

A woman sitting at a table with a microphone, wearing a blue blouse, smiling confidently. She gestures with her hand while surrounded by signs labeled with various roles such as 'The Fixer' and 'The Problem Solver'. A mug with 'Just Basia' is in front of her, and a bold quote urges viewers to stop taking on roles they weren't assigned.

Some of us are tired because we keep accepting jobs God never gave us.

We have appointed ourselves the family fixer.

The relationship rescuer.

The emergency contact for every crisis.

The person who has to make everything okay.

We solve problems that do not belong to us.

We carry responsibilities that belong to other capable adults.

We worry about situations we cannot control.

And then we wonder why we are exhausted.

Today, I want to remind you:

You are not required to rescue everybody.

There is a difference between being loving and becoming responsible for another adult’s life.

There is a difference between helping someone and continuously saving them from the consequences of their own choices.

There is a difference between supporting people and carrying them.

And sometimes, because we love people, we confuse those things.

We tell ourselves:

“If I don’t do it, who will?”

Maybe the answer is:

They will.

Maybe they need to.

Sometimes constantly rescuing someone prevents them from developing the strength, discipline, wisdom, and accountability they need for their own life.

Every problem does not require your intervention.

Every phone call does not require an immediate solution.

Every crisis does not belong on your shoulders.

And every person you love does not need you to become their savior.

That position is already filled.

I believe God calls us to love, serve, encourage, and support one another.

But that does not mean we are called to control every outcome.

Sometimes faith looks like helping.

And sometimes faith looks like stepping back.

Sometimes love says:

“I am here for you.”

And sometimes healthy love says:

“I believe you are capable of handling this.”

That can be difficult for those of us who are natural problem-solvers.

When you are competent, responsible, and caring, people quickly learn that you will handle things.

And if you are not careful, their responsibilities slowly become yours.

Their emergency becomes your emergency.

Their poor planning becomes your inconvenience.

Their financial choices become your financial burden.

Their emotional chaos becomes your emotional exhaustion.

Eventually, you can become so busy managing everybody else’s life that you have no energy left to live your own.

That is not sustainable.

And it is not necessary.

Before you rush in to solve the next problem, ask yourself:

“Did God actually assign this to me, or did I volunteer?”

That question can change your life.

Because some of the peace you have been praying for may require you to stop carrying things that were never yours to carry.

TODAY’S POWER MOVE

Think about one responsibility you are currently carrying for another capable adult.

Then ask yourself three questions:

Is this actually my responsibility?

Am I helping this person—or preventing them from learning to help themselves?

What would happen if I lovingly stepped back?

If it is not yours, begin returning the responsibility to the person it belongs to.

You can still love them.

You can still pray for them.

You can still encourage them.

But you do not have to carry them.

TODAY’S POWER LINE

Stop volunteering for roles God never assigned you. You can love people deeply without becoming responsible for everything in their lives.

Protect your energy.

Protect your peace.

And make sure you have enough left to fulfill the assignments that actually belong to you.

With love,

Basia ❤️

P.S. Sometimes saying, “I know you can handle this,” is more loving than immediately stepping in to fix it.
