You Are The Sum Total Of Your Choices

No one ever said that life would be easy. However, the quality of life you experience boils down to one thing, and that is how you choose to respond to life’s challenges. We all want a certain type of life, but few people are willing to do what it takes to get the life they want. I recently heard that comedian and actor Kevin Hart gets up at 4 a.m. every morning and starts his day by working out. I also read Kevin’s book, where he detailed what it took for him to get into Hollywood, which included driving every night from Philadelphia to New York for comedy gigs. Not to mention the many times he got turned down. However, nothing stopped him. He kept going. Isn’t that what life boils down to? The choice to continue your dreams after being rejected or knocked down. Getting rejection after rejection is not easy. The key is making that choice to say “yes” to your dreams even when you do not receive your desired outcome.

The realization of our dreams is built on the choices we are prepared to make. As a woman of a particular age, I am now able to realize the impact that my choices have had on my life. Whilst growing up, I was told to get a “great education,” which back then meant a university degree or two. However, I know many people who made the choice to pursue a skill or profession in music, sports, or a trade, and they have reaped significant rewards based on those choices. I also realized that the road less traveled delivered the most rewards.

More than anything, I have learned that in this life, the most important choice you can make is to choose yourself. Make choices that make you happy. We are all born with a God-given talent. Once you follow that talent, it leads to a happy garden and with had work and discipline, it bears fruit. Happiness cannot be found when pursuing the ideas of others. It can only be found through authenticity.

The soul wants what the soul wants. Make choices that will allow you to pursue the desires of your heart. The people who are the most successful always take an unconventional path, whether it be a business idea that succeeded or a career in a field that did not offer a guaranteed monthly salary. Whatever the choice, what they all have in common is the fact that it is never the traditional path with guaranteed returns.

“Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.”

John C Maxwell

Today, when I reflect on the choices I have made in my life over the years, I must admit that I made better choices as my faith in God grew. I also made better choices whenever I consulted my Divine Creator.

Everything we do in our lives comes down to the choices we make. The choice of our partners, career, to be happy, to be stuck in life, etc. More than anything, our choices lead to our happiness and unhappiness. Whatever position you find yourself in today, you still have a choice to get out of it. The choice is yours.

“Choose to be happy.”

Wherever you are standing in your life today is a result of a choice you made. If it is not a destination that is making you happy, you still have a choice, once you are alive, to do something about your circumstances.
